Terry Brown launched into an astonishing attack on most of his AFC Wimbledon squad after another dismal defeat on Tuesday.

Against relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle, the Dons gifted them goals at the start of the each half - the first just 11 seconds in - as they lost 2-1, to follow up defeat by the same scoreline to another struggling team, Hereford United, on Saturday.

The defence came in for the most abuse from Brown, who is desperate to add another centre-half on loan, after more shambolic defending, with central defensive pairing Callum McNaughton and Mat Mitchel-King culpable for the Pilgrims' goals - after captain Jamie Stuart was dropped from the squad completely.

"We have certainly been patient with them," he said.

"But how many chances can you give?

"I have five centre-halfs here, all of which are good, honest centre-halfs, but we are not winning enough aerial battles.

"The bloke who headed in the first goal (Onismor Bhasera) is 5ft 8in and he has out jumped a 6ft 4in centre-half (Mitchel-King) and that summed the game up for me.

"You need to keep clean sheets and I keep saying that.

"It's my fault for not getting someone in earlier - I like to give the boys ample and fair chance but best we address it before the window shuts and with 12 games to go rather than six.

"We've been trying to get another centre half in for the last couple of weeks but we missed out to a Championship club on two of them so we are desperately trying to strengthen that area.

"Mark my words, Dagenham & Redbridge will be delivering every ball onto our centre-halfs' heads on Saturday.

"Their manager John Still would have watched us on Tuesday and he will be thinking yahoo.

"We will have ballls in our box all day and we will have to deal with it and, if we don't, the rest is irrelevant."

It was not only the defence that failed to impress Brown on Tuesday, his midfield and attack came in for a post-match battering too.

"I didn't see a lot going forward," he added.

"I didn't see forwards holding the ball up, midfielders making penetrating runs - it looked narrow and we lacked width.

"And I look at my midfield and it looked like four individuals.

"Billy Knott is a wanderer, he is a fantastic talent and a wonderfully gifted boy but you have to find someway of accommodating the fact the rest of the game he is not going to give you that shape.

"You can put him left and he is over on the right wing in two seconds - when you are struggling and looking for shape that does not help you.

"We have to be a team and work together, be more solid.

"I might have to look at strengthening that midfield with a bit more of a solid player.

"You need a little bit of nous and it is a really big ask for the Billys and the George Moncurs at this stage.

"They have been brilliant for us, they are not our problem but sometimes you have to help them out with a bit of experience.

"I need Jason Prior to put Christian Jolley under a bit of pressure, I need Byron Harrison to start doing something up front - Jack Midson scores a goal every game and he can't do much more than that.

"I need Luke Moore fit and Kieran Djilali is now fit and he would have offered me a little bit of width on Tuesday which we were desperately crying out for."
