Brentford boss Uwe Rosler thanked Twitter for helping inspire his side’s return to form on Saturday.

The Bees moved into the top six at the weekend after a thrilling 2-1 against Hartlepool thanks to Gary Alexander’s late penalty.

It put winning sheen on a week that had seen Rosler’s men exit both the FA Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, tsparking criticism from fans on social networking websites.

And Rosler was relieved to be celebrating a win.

“Football games are often decided by what is between the ears and I think it was not an easy week for us to pick up the players and play with confidence,” he said.

“But it was a very important win after our run of home results and coming back from the two defeats in the cup.

“I felt some of the criticism especially after Tuesday's game, which I felt it was unfair.

“Obviously that has some sort of effect. We don’t live in a bubble and blame everything else.

“Players are on Twitter and speaking to friends etc and there is a lot to consider. I was conscious we had to work on that aspect and we started the game in a good way.

“For me, after what I experienced last week, I just wanted to win and enjoy our weekend.”

All three goals were scored in the closing 10 minutes of the match that saw Niall McGinn’s 80th minute opener cancelled out almost immediately.

The hosts came roaring back, however, and Alexander smashed home to move Rosler’s team firmly into the play-off picture and send the 6,352 fans at Grifffin Park home happy.

“I thought the players responded very well in the first half,” he said.

“Hartlepool played 4-5-1 and made it very difficult for us.

“But we still went out in the second half and the game opened up a little and one or two players picked up the pace, especially Shaleum Logan and Toumani Diagouraga.

“I didn't expect them to be so fantastic, and in the second half the tempo went up and we created more chances.

“The crowd were behind us over the whole 90 minutes, especially in the second half when they really got behind us.

“We’ve been between seventh and 10th for a long time and I think being in the top six can give us a real boost.

“It is a nice way for the players to have a week and prepare themselves properly for an away trip.”

The Bees travel to Bury on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten away league run and cement their place in the top six.
