AFC Wimbledon produced a battling display to force an FA Cup first round replay with Scunthorpe United after a 0-0 draw at Kingsmeadow.

The Dons matched their League One counterparts for large parts of the game but were indebted to keeper Seb Brown for four good saves.

Defensive duo Jamie Stuart and Brett Johnson were in good form with a number of excellent blocks and tackles but it was up front where Wimbledon struggled.

Jack Midson was often isolated and when they did get forward the final ball and decision making was poor.

Their case wasn’t helped when winger Keiran Djilali was forced off after just 10 minutes with what looked a recurrence of his hamstring problems.

Minutes later Scunthorpe had the first chance on goal as Chris Dagnall skipped past Brown but, having been forced wide by the keeper, his cross only found Stuart.

Sammy Hatton then curled a free kick just past the left-hand post before Rashid Yussuff had the Dons’ best chance of the match.

Christian Jolley’s twinkle toes and pass put the midfielder though but Sam Slocombe got down low to his left to make a decent save.

Dagnall then forced a good save out of Brown from distance and Max Porter had a chance to open the scoring at the other end but couldn’t quite stretch enough to reach Ryan Jackson’ s cross.

Dagnall then hit the side netting at the other end as the half ended goalless.

Scunthorpe’s best chance came on 58 minutes as the ball fell to Nicky Ajose 12 yards out but Brown did brilliantly to save low to his left.

Porter than had another good chance but shot across goal after Jolley’s cut-back had just evaded Midson.

It was all action and Brown again had to be alert to save from Mark Duffy after he cut inside Hatton and then he turned Bobby Grant’s free kick past the post.

Charles Ademeno flashed a header wide in injury time but the Dons will now have to go and win at Scunthorpe if they are to make the second round for a second year running.
