Brentford boss Uwe Rosler has said he will not rush defender Leon Legge back to action despite being short of staff in his back four.

The 25-year-old came off the bench in Tuesday’s 6-0 win over AFC Bournemouth, nearly scoring with his first touch and bringing an air of calm in defence.

But Rosler is not certain to risk him again in Satuday’s FA Cup clash with Basingstoke Town as he prepares his squad for next week’s visit of Charlton Athletic.

“The reason he played is to build him up. With having only two centre halves fit we had to throw him into first team football straightaway,” said the manager.

“He might get a little more time on Saturday, then will play on Tuesday [in the development game] and then we’ll see how he is before the Charlton game.”

Sam Saunders continued his return from injury with a fine strike on Tuesday, while Gary Alexander enjoyed a small cameo off the bench in the closing stages after his heroics in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

A result which delighted Rosler.

“They have had seven home wins in a row. With all respect to Wednesday they shouldn’t be in this league,” he said.

“We are coming here, creating chances, playing well and get the point. Not many teams will come here and get a point and I’m very happy.”

The Bees kick-off their FA Cup campaign at Griffin Park on Saturday (1pm kick-off) and Rosler insisted Brentford would be prepared.

“I have followed English football long enough to know you take nothing for granted in cup competitions,” he added.

“We can not underestimate Basingstoke.

“I have two match reports and DVDs on Basingstoke and will focus on them.

“We definitely want to go as far as we possibly can in the FA Cup.”
