Sammy Moore is revelling in his midfield enforcer role at AFC Wimbledon and believes he has finally found his position on the pitch.

The 24-year-old scored his first goal since January in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Barnet but was rested for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Swindon Town on Tuesday night, which the Dons lost 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Until Tuesday, Moore had started every game for the Dons since August, when he returned from five months out with a dislocated knee, and is enjoying being in the thick of the action in the middle of the park.

"I love it there and think I have found my position," said the former Ipswich Town youngster.

"That's my game, battling with people, and I like to get on the ball and get the team moving.

"It is nice just to give the ball to the boys up top and let them get on with it and as long as we do our jobs at the back we won't have a problem.

"Barnet stopped us playing from out the back on Saturday so we had to kick it but I am glad we got a point in the end.

"It was great to get on the scoresheet too and bring us back to 1-1 and maybe we could have nicked it."

Wimbledon have now gone five league games without a win heading into this weekend's FA Cup first round tie at home to League One side Scunthorpe United.

"We haven't really hit the form we want to hit," added Moore.

"We have had good results here and there but this league is about not making mistakes and we are making too many individual mistakes at the minute and it is costing us.

"It would definitely be nice to have a cup run and all the pressure is on Scunthorpe.

"We will go out there and give it our all and, hopefully, we will be in the next round of the FA Cup.

"As a player, you want to play at the highest standard possible and play the better teams and in that competition you have to beat the best to be the best."
