Versatile Harlequins back Ollie Lindsay-Hague is desperate to lay down a marker for the coming season, starting with the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Premiership Sevens on Friday.

Lindsay-Hague, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Rosslyn Park, has targeted this year as a chance to make a breakthrough into first-team contention at the Stoop.

Quins take on Premiership rivals bath, Exeter Chiefs and London Irish at the Rec and the 20-year-old England Sevens regular will not be taking the competition lightly.

“They are all Premiership clubs competing and will inevitably all be very strong at the tournament so it’s up to us to prove ourselves as a team and as individuals,” said Lindsay-Hague.

“It’s not just about fitness for us, we will be going there to win the tournament, I’ve never competed in the JP Morgan before but from what I have heard about the players involved it’s going to be tough.

“I really enjoy sevens and have got a good amount of experience playing it, so hopefully this will be a chance to prove myself and get a chance in the 15-man game.”

Lindsay-Hague made a couple of starts for Harlequins last year and with a number of players likely to be on international duty come the start of the Premiership season.

And the former Millfield school pupil admits more game time in the Aviva Premiership is now his main target.

“Sevens will be something I will always be involved in, I love the game and when you're not playing for Harlequins for whatever reason it’s a great way to stay sharp,” he added.

“But with players like Ugo (Monye) potentially away at the World Cup that could free up some places in the Harlequins side and I’m desperate to start to make some more first-team appearances.

“With any luck my versatility will be a big help. Even if I’m not starting might give me a chance to make the bench and come on and show what I can do.”
