Sutton United face a defensive dilemma after John Scarborough and Neil Lampton picked up injuries in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at home to Yeading.

Centre-half lynchpin Scarborough broke his nose and is doubtful for Saturday's match at Eastleigh, while stand-in right-back Neil Lampton could also be ruled out with a broken hand.

Lampton was only been in defence after the recurrence of Eddie Akuamoah's back problems.

"It is a blow, but we will just have to wait and see how long they will be out before deciding what to do," assistant manager Paul Harford said.

"John's nose will have to be re-set so we may look at bringing someone in on loan."

Sutton had changed from a back three to a back four in recent weeks, with Akuamoah doing well as an attacking left-back against Fisher Athletic.

Ryan Palmer, who started the season as sweeper, was switched from right to left-back to cover for Akuamoah, with Lampton at right-back.

Harford said he and boss Ian Hazel would continue to search for a successful formula.

"Sometimes you have to make tweaks to try to bring about a happy medium between attack and defence," he said.

Sutton switched to a three-pronged strike force after Richard Harris's opener was cancelled out by three Yeading goals in a 15-minute spell before the break.
