Gary Alexander says ‘score more goals’ wasn’t on his New Year’s resolution list, but insists he doesn’t mind if they dry up providing Brentford keep winning.

The former Millwall striker scored his third goal in five games as they Bees beat struggling Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, before slipping to a 3-1 defeat at AFC Bournemouth.

Alexander’s partnership with fans favourite Charlie MacDonald has blossomed with the pair producing six goals in their last six outings.

MacDonald laid on the opener for Robbie Simpson against the Daggers and boss Andy Scott reckons his side fire when his front two are on form.

And 31-year-old Alexander believes creating chances is as much a part of their game as banging them in themselves.

“I’ve said all along I don’t mind whether I score or not providing we are getting results,” he said.

“The more games me and Charlie play together the better our understanding becomes and we’ve seen that come over the last couple of months.

“We are getting some good chances ourselves and creating chances for other people, which is only a good thing.”

Scott is eyeing re-enforcements as Brentford face a hectic new year schedule and Alexander reckons he needs to look no further than Simpson for more goals.

“Robbie scored a lot of goals early on and is starting to find his form having come back from injury,” he added.

“He only adds more of a threat to us up front. If we get more people come in then it is only going to make for healthy competition.”
