Director of rugby Conor O’Shea insists switching Harlequin’s LV= Cup clash with Wasps to Abu Dhabi will not derail his side’s hopes of lifting the trophy.
Wasps confirmed the move this week that will see the clash on January 30 played at a specially constructed 5,000-seater stadium in the grounds of the Emirates Palace as opposed to Adams Park in Buckinghamshire.
Quins are well placed to progress to the knock-out stages of the competition, but will fly to the Middle East before returning to host Cardiff Blues in the space of ten days.
But while the move will see a host of fans unable to make the trip, O’Shea insists the switch is of little consequence to his plans.
“At the end of the day it is an away game for us and we’ll go where ever we are told to,” he said.
“We’re pretty excited about it and a few of the injured players are already seeming to make Lazarus like recoveries to put themselves in contention for the trip.
“The time difference isn’t a problem because we can sleep on the plane and we will have time to adjust when we fly back for the Blues game.
“It is a massive match for us because we want to qualify and the conditions should suit us.”
