Skipper Kevin O’Connor believes fellow-strugglers Plymouth Argyle could feel the full-force of the fall-out from Brentford’s FA Cup exit at Aldershot Town.

Tuesday’s disappointment made it back-to-back defeats for the Bees after Saturday’s 2-0 reverse to MK Dons ended a seven-match unbeaten run.

Brentford’s October renaissance had helped boss Andy Scott to the League One manager of the month award before the recent slump.

Scott has slammed the inconsistencies that have marred his side’s campaign thus far and O’Connor has vowed they will put things right at the weekend.

“It is a tough place to go, but it could be just the sort of game we need get our fire back,” he said.

“The last two games have been so frustrating because it seems like we are taking two steps forward and one step back.

“We need to get that fighting spirit back and pull together as a unit. Everyone will be against us and we can respond to that.

“It is a team game and it is frustrating that just when you think you are building, you are back to square one.

“We must put things right.”

Scott was forced to re-shuffle his pack for the cup clash, but O’Connor insists the Bees should have been good enough to cope instead of hitting a new low.

“There are no excuses for that defeat. You can’t put it down to the changes that were made,” he added.

“The squad is more than capable of dealing with that. We’ve got the players to have won that game.

“We’ve had so many good performances this season and some low points, but this is the lowest.

“It has been a massive downer, but we must put it behind us and lift ourselves.”
