Bees defender Michael Spillane reckons the form of team-mate Robbie Simpson has given him a new lease of life at Griffin Park.

Former Coventry City man Simpson has starred as boss Andy Scott’s men have gone unbeaten in the three games since a 3-1 home defeat to league new boys Rochdale.

Spillane was dropped after the 2-0 opening day defeat at Carlisle United, but his return to the starting line-up has coincided with three consecutive cleansheets.

And he reckons linking up with the Huddersfield Town loanee down the right hand side has helped him find his best form.

“He knows I like to get forward and he is not one of those lazy midfielders who won’t track back and cover you, “ he said.

“If I go forward he covers me and we have a good understanding.

“I can do a job as a right winger but from a personal point of view I’m much happier to be back in the team and in my best position.”

Spillane is likely to feature when the Bees take on Premier League Everton at Griffin Park on Tuesday and he says it is a good opportunity to test himself against the best.

“I’m a young player striving to push on and hopefully reach the level the Everton players are one day,” he added.

“It is good to compare yourself to them in a game, to know what you have to do get where they are.”
