Head coach Simon Amor insists he has the quality in his London Scottish squad to fill the void left by star full-back Frankie Neale.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off with a back injury in the second half of Saturday’s 24-17 defeat to Barking at the Athletic Ground and will miss this weekend’s short trip to Rosslyn Park.

Neale, signed from Blackheath in 2008, scored 279 points - including 14 tries - in 25 starts for the Exiles last season and is key to any hopes of earning promotion to the Championship this term.

But Amor is convinced his men can overcome his absence.

“Frankie has been a great player for the club over the last 18 months but one man does not make a team,” he said.

“We have no idea when he will be back at this stage. He was stretchered off, but was able to walk out of the ground - which is a positive. We are monitoring the situation.

“It is a shame for him, but I am 100 per cent confident we have the talent that can step into his shoes. They will have to, it is as simple as that.”

David Howells, Sam Harding and Craig McGrath scored tries for Scottish, but four missed kick proved costly as they recorded back-to-back defeats to open the campaign.

“We are definitely showing improvement and the error count is dropping,” added Amor.

“We need to work hard every single day to make sure that continues.”

Winless Scottish face high-flying Park at the Rock on Saturday and the Athletic Ground chief knows his task will not get any easier.

“They are a very good side with good forwards and powerful backs, who have a lot of Premiership experience,” he said.

“This season was never going to be easy because there are so many good sides in the league.

“We are going to have to front up and play very well.”

Scottish’s next three games: Sept 18 Rosslyn Park (a), 25 Redruth (h), Oct 2 Otley (a).
