Boss Andy Scott expects to have to make a last minute dash to the Continent if he wants to add Dutchman Pim Balkestein to his squad on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old centre back, released by Ipswich Town last week, enjoyed two impressive loan spells at Griffin Park last season as Brentford finished ninth in League One.

Balkestein, who played 14 games for the Bees, is currently weighing up his options in Holland with offers from a number of European side’s also on the table.

And Scott admits he is ready to make a trip across the Channel at a moments notice to get his man.

“He has got a fair bit of interest in him from a couple of foreign clubs so that shows what we are up against,” he said.

“We have spoken to him and he enjoyed his spell with us, so hopefully we can get something sorted.

“Flying over there might be a last minute thing, because these things can happen very quickly.

“The availability of players can come up unexpectedly so you have to be able to go at a moments notice.”
