Brentford boss Andy Scott reckons his side’s first five games will provide a good barometer as to how the Bees will fare in League One next season.
Scott’s men travel to Carlisle United on the opening day of the season for the second successive year before matches with Walsall, play-off finalists Swindon Town, newly promoted Rochdale and fallen Championship giants Sheffield Wednesday.
The complete the campaign with promotion favourites Southampton and Huddersfield Town, but it is the opening month that has the Griffin Park chief’s attention.
“I’m not too bothered about the last two games it is the first five or six I’m more concerned with,” he said.
“Carlisle are always tough, Swindon will be up there again and we only got a point against Walsall in both games last year.
“Then you have got Rochdale and Sheffield Wednesday, so it is a mixed bag from all over the place and it will give us a good idea of where we are as a team and where we are going.
“We want to get off to a fast start and that is what we are preparing for.”
Brentford’s first four games: Aug 7 Carlisle Utd (a), 11 Cheltenham Town (h, Carling Cup), 14 Walsall (h), 21 Swindon Town (a).
