Mark Nwokeji reveals all he needed was a little bit of love to convince him to sign on the dotted line for AFC Wimbledon.

The former Staines Town and Dagenham & Redbridge striker arrives at Kingsmeadow as one of boss Terry Brown’s key summer signings.

And the 28-year-old admits the interest shown in him by the Dons over the years was a key factor in his decision.

Nwokeji said: “All I want to do is play somewhere where I feel wanted and I definitely get that vibe from Wimbledon.

“When I get at a club where I am wanted I will score goals and you can see that from what happened at Staines Town.

“I know Wimbledon have been tracking me for a while and it is great to finally be here.

“They first spoke to me a couple of days after the Ryman Premier play-off final back in 2008, but by then I had already committed myself to go to Dagenham.

“Wimbledon came back in for me during last season to take me on loan, but I had already agreed to go to Luton Town.

“But now my contract at Dagenham is up - they invited me back to pre-season training but I want a fresh challenge and Wimbledon seems a great place to do that.”

Nwokeji has endured a stop-start couple of season at the league side, with a handful of goals sandwiched by spells on the sidelines with injury.

But the striker has no doubt he has got what it takes to succeed at a professional level.

Nwokeji added: “When I am fit and I am on my game I am a very difficult player to overlook.

“I have scored goals at football league level and I am sure I can do the same at AFC Wimbledon.

“I did not think I got a fair crack of the whip during my time at Luton and I really look forward to getting back in the goals at Kingsmeadow.”

With Danny Kedwell, Jon Main and Luke Moore already in place, Nwokeji is unlikely to simply waltz into Terry Brown’s starting 11.

But the Streatham Vale-based frontman has no qualms over proving his worth.

Nwokeji added: “I am not coming to Wimbledon expecting to play every game.

“I know they have some great players there and I am really looking forward to getting started.

“This club has been interested in me for a long time and it is up to me to show I was worth that with goals.”
