England and Harlequins scrum-half Danny Care says he is heading to Australia to enjoy himself - but only on the rugby pitch.

Team boss Martin Johnson’s men take on the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday before heading to the southern hemisphere for a five-match tour of Australia and New Zealand.

It is first time the national team will have visited the region since a controversial trip two years ago that saw Care - and Quins team mates David Strettle and Mike Brown - splashed across the headlines for the wrong reasons.

And the England number nine admits the players are in no doubt over their focus for the coming month.

“We’ve all signed up to a code of conduct and we have to stick to that. It is always in your mind,” he said.

“It will be a massively professional tour, although I am still looking forward to visiting a country I’ve never been to in my life.

“It won’t be a case of going out drinking and enjoying ourselves in that way, but we will enjoy what the country has to offer and enjoy the rugby.

“We are there to do a serious job and we’ve been told that starts with this weekend against the Barbarians.

“It is six games and we want to win as many as we can. Hopefully, we can get things off to a good start on Sunday and take that through to the rest of the tour.”

Care has enjoyed a week’s rest from the game since the end of a season that saw Quins’ campaign end sooner than they would have liked.

But he is in no doubt they can bounce back from a testing 12 months, under new director of rugby Conor O’Shea.

“I’ve known Conor since my time in the junior academies and he is a great guy,” he added.

“He is always quick to remind us it is the best time of our lives when we are playing rugby so enjoy it, which is a refreshing approach.

“As a squad we definitely have the ability to get some silverware, it is a case of finding that consistency throughout a season.”
