AFC Wimbledon under 13s will head to Derby County’s Pride Park stadium on May 9 to contest the English National Championships after winning the Surrey and South of England tournament.

Prior to turning up for this prestigious tournament the boys had won 73 out of their previous 76 games, spanning 3 years since they started playing 11-a-side football, scoring over 315 goals and only conceding 34.

They won the Southern Regional final by winning their group which included County champions from London, Oxfordshire, Kent, Sussex and Essex. Having seen the original 2,500 entrants whittled down to just two teams, it was left for AFC Wimbledon to play Wealdstone in the Final.

It was a close fought battle, but AFC Wimbledon emerged victorious with a 1-0 triumph thanks to a fantastic individual goal from Jake Gill.

This is the first time that any team from Surrey has reached this stage of the competition, and the Dons topped off the day by having both Gill and Patrick Roberts named as players of the tournament.
