Ben Strevens reckons he would much rather have the points on the board than games in hand as Brentford face a full-on fixture pile-up to end the League One season.

The Bees have played at least two games less than any of their rivals and face a further 16 games this campaign, including nine in the next four weeks.

And the striker admits the match mountain is something the Griffin Park side really could have done without.

Strevens said: “We do not have that big a squad so the games coming thick and fast does give us a problem.

“It is the old question of whether you would prefer the points or games in hand.

“Given a choice I would take the points every day of the week as that takes away some of the pressure.

“We will be playing Saturday then Tuesday until the end of the season and that makes a big difference as you have so little time to recover and train properly.

“But that is what faces us and we just have to get on with it.”

When Brentford run out at Elland Road it will be their first game for a fortnight having seen games with Colchester and Tranmere fall foul of waterlogged pitches.

And Strevens reveals he is itching to get back into serious action.

He added: “It has been a very frustrating time but you just have to deal with it.

“It is just one of those things and nobody could have predicted the weather would still be this bad.

“It has been the worst spell I have ever known as a footballer as we have not been able to get on the training pitches either.

“But hopefully the worst is past us now and we can concentrate on playing games.”
