Paul Doswell has guaranteed that Sutton United will make the Ryman Premier play-offs this season after seeing his side move into third in the table on Tuesday night.

The 2-1 win at promotion rivals Boreham Wood, on the back of Saturday’s triumph at Ashford Town, has extended Sutton’s unbeaten streak to seven games.

And, sitting only three points behind second-place Kingstonian with three games in hand, Doswell has promotion in his sights.

He said: “We will be in the play-offs - simple as that.

“It is just a shame that we could not get going earlier because if we had I think we would even be giving Dartford a run for their money.

“Whether we will go up via the play-offs is another matter but we are certainly a team in form.

“I will stick my neck out though and say if we do not go up this season we will win the league next year.”

Sam Gargan and Bradley Woods-Garness grabbed the goals on Tuesday night, with Steve Watts Saturday’s hero.

And Doswell was eager to pay tribute to the adaptability of his side.

He added: “When I started this season the whole idea was to go at teams with pace but the weather and pitches have stopped us doing that.

“It is to the credit of the squad then that we can change how we play - on Saturday the pitch was awful so we put out a team to be big and strong and got the result.

“At Boreham Wood the surface was like a bowling green though and it allowed me to bring back in the likes of Danny Phillips and we really tore into them and fully deserved the win.”

Sutton now face back-to-back home clashes with Maidstone United and Horsham as they look to press their advantage.

And the United boss simply wants his side to continue what they are doing.

Doswell added: “Every team in this league craves consistency and we have found it.

“That is always the key to a successful season.

“The pitch has not been the best at Gander Green Lane but we have battled through that and we have put ourselves in a great position.”
