Brentford on-loan midfielder Toumani Diagouraga has not given boss Andy Scott a selection headache because his form speaks for itself, says the Griffin Park chief.

The 22-year-old Peterborough United man was the Bees’ outstanding performer in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Walsall and has impressed since coming in to deputise for the injured Marcus Bean.

Bean, on the bench at the weekend, is close to a return to the starting line-up having been a regular in the Brentford engine room as Scott’s men have climbed the League One table this season.

Diagouraga is on loan from Posh until the end of the season and at present has a firm hold on a Bees central midfield berth Bees and the manager insists that will continue to be the case until proven otherwise.

“Marcus’ absence has been a big gap to fill for Toumani, but we always knew he was a very good footballer and he has done very well for us,” he said.

“He and every player in the squad knows that if they play well they will stay in the side. It is as simple as that. No dilemma as far as I’m concerned.

“Marcus needs a little more rest with his knee, so it is up to Toumani to keep performing.

“David Hunt is champing at the bit to get back in, so we have got a strong set of four players there looking to keep everyone on their toes.”

Defender Ryan Dickson looks set to be the chief beneficiary of Tuesday’s postponed match at Colchester United, with Scott admitting the extra rest has given a greater chance of featuring at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

“Every team wants their best players available and Ryan is one of ours. We’re hoping he will be fit for the weekend. The Colchester game has given us a little more time to get him right,” he added.
