London Scottish director of rugby Brett Taylor has hailed the character of his title-chasing side after a nailbiting win at Redruth on Saturday.

The Exiles needed a Frankie Neale penalty to secure an 11-10 victory in Cornwall and keep pace with National Division One leaders Esher, who remained five points clear at the top after beating Cambridge.

Talyor’s men had slipped 10-0 behind early in the second half, but responded through Neale’s first penalty of the afternoon and an unconverted try from winger Charlie Broughton.

The 22-year-old full-back disected the posts again with less than 15 minutes on the clock to complete the comeback and move Scottish six points clear of the chasing pack as the title race warms up.

“The boys showed some real character to claw it back from 10-0 down and get 11-10 ahead,” said Taylor.

“To then hold on until the final whistle, in horrendous conditions and with a long day’s travel, was an unbelievable performance.”

Neale was a member of the 22-man Barabarians squad that lost 22-19 to the Combined Services in Wednesday’s 12th Rememberance Match at Army Stadium, Aldershot.

And Taylor reckoned the honour for his leading points scorer was richly deserved.

“Frankie is an incredibly talented player who is on top of his game,” he added.

Scottish’s next three games: Nov 14 Otley (h), 28 Stourbridge (h), Dec 5 Newbury (a).
