Lewis Taylor reveals he has already ordered a copy of his goal at Millwall on DVD, but admits he was gutted AFC Wimbledon could not spring an FA Cup surprise.

Taylor’s 81st minute strike at the New Den looked as though it would set up a grandstand finish at the home of the League One side, only for the Lions to score two goals in the last four minutes to earn a flattering 4-1 win.

But the Dons midfielder, who already had an FA Cup goal to his name thanks to a Second Round penalty against Swansea City back in 2007, reckons it was still an occasion he will never forget.

Taylor said: “When Danny Kedwell’s backheel came through to me my only thought was to make sure I hit the target.

“I just wanted to make the keeper work and fortunately it went in.

“When I scored for Horsham it was a boyhood dream and this may even top that.

“You dream of playing in the FA Cup, let alone scoring in it.

“I have already asked for the DVD, and it is just a shame that we could not go on from there.

“When I scored I thought we could get at least a draw and maybe even nick it, but it was not to be.”

Taylor was part of a hard-working Dons midfield that had their work cut-out against a slick-passing Millwall side.

But the 23-year-old insisted the defeat was not down to a gulf in class.

He added: “I think it just boiled down to fitness at the end.

“We were all really tired, and when that happens you start to make mistakes.

“With a side like Millwall, if you make mistakes you are going to get punished and the two late goals flattered them really.”

Wimbledon will be back on the road this weekend, when their army of fans, which numbered an impressive 3,339 at the New Den, will make the trek to Barrow for the Blue Square Premier clash.

And Taylor admitted the passion of the Dons fans never fails to amaze.

He added: “It was such a great feeling to score in front of them as they really deserved it.

“We know that the fans will be there week in, week out and we are very thankful for that.

“It is very easy to take them for granted but the truth of the matter is we would not be here if it was not for them, and I will never forget that.”
