Brentford boss Andy Scott has fired a warning to Southampton by pointing out there is still more to come from his side as they adapt to life in League One.

The Bees dismissed Norwich City 2-1 at Griffin Park on Tuesday with an accomplished display against the former Championship outfit to continue an impressive unbeaten start to their league campaign.

Scott’s men travel to the St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday for the first time since earning an FA Cup fifth round replay in drawing 2-2 with the then-Premier League Saints in 2005.

But the League Two title winning manager insists his side head to the south coast expecting to win having watched his players prove they can challenge the league’s best in the opening weeks of the season.

“There’s never been a shadow of a doubt in my mind that we can do well in this league and we’ve said that from the first game of pre-season,” he said.

“We’ve got the momentum from last season and they are good players and that is why they are at this football club, but they have got to work hard and be tactically aware.

“The players I’ve brought in have been able to do that and it is paying off.

“There is still more to come and that’s what is exciting about this team. There are always aspects we can improve on. The players were making points after Tuesday’s win, which is a sign they still want to improve.

“I expected to win against Norwich and I expect to win again at Southampton on Saturday. They lost on Tuesday, we’ll take a good following down there and they’ve got to cope with us.”

Brentford’s next three fixtures: Aug 22 Southampton (a), 29 Oldham Athletic (h), Sept 5 Charlton Athletic (a).
