Harlequins centre Jordan Turner-Hall reckons the Stoop side are on the verge of establishing a stranglehold on the England set-up after he was named alongside three teammates to face the Barbarians at Twickenham this weekend.

Turner-Hall will be joined by fellow uncapped Quin Chris Robshaw, along with Nick Easter and Danny Care as Martin Johnson’s men begin their preparations for the summer tests with Argentina.

And with David Strettle also named in the Elite Squad, Ugo Monye on tour with the British Lions in South Africa and Tom Guest part of the Saxons squad the situation is in stark contrast to as recent as 2007, when the England squad that started the World Cup did not feature a single Quin.

Turner-Hall said: “I think it is a great statement for Harlequins as a club and I am positive we will build on this.

“Playing for Harlequins makes my life a lot easier as you have a great opportunity to impress and I have taken that chance.

“We have been playing really well and a lot of the guys are getting the recognition that their talent deserves.

“Just two years ago this would never have happened, but we are a side on the up and it will develop even more in the future.”

Turner-Hall will be partnering Newcastle’s Jamie Noon in the centres to round off a season that has seen the 21-year-old establish himself as a major force in the Guinness Premiership.

And the debutant admitted he cannot wait to get started.

He added: “When I heard my name being read out it was a fantastic feeling.

“It is absolutely awesome.

“We have been training really hard and I got the heads up that I might be selected, but until it happens you never know.

“Obviously we had a disappointing end to the season at Quins but we will bounce back from that and this is a great reward for me.

“My body has taken a real pounding, but luckily I am young and I can recover pretty quickly.

“For me now it will just be a case of playing my game.

“I am here for a reason and the last thing I want to do is go out there and try and force something.”

Turner-Hall, who was voted Premiership Young Player of the Year recently, is relishing locking horns with a big-name Baa-Baas outfit that boasts, amongst others, six All Black internationals alongside skipper Martin Corry.

But he accepts that with Argentina looming on the horizon, the clash may not be the high-scoring spectacle of old.

The centre added: “There is the expectation that we will entertain and throw the ball around but that may not be the case.

“This game will be more about getting the basics right as far as we are concerned.

“But it will still be a great contest - the Barbarians are full of world-class players and we will not be taking anything for granted.”

Turner-Hall will also be keeping one eye on the British Lions tour in South Africa, which also gets underway this weekend with a clash against a Royal XV on Saturday.

And the bruising back insists Quins winger Monye will make his presence felt.

He added: “I think Ugo will be one of the stars of the tour and I am sure he will do well given the chance.

“He is very strong physically and he has pace to burn, and the hard pitches out there will suit him down to the ground.

“Ugo has had a fantastic season and he definitely deserves to be there and he is an inspiration to the rest of us.”
