AFC Wimbledon skipper Jason Goodliffe admits his time at the Dons may have come to an end - but insists he will depart Kingsmeadow with his head held high.

The 35-year-old central defender put the icing on the cake at the Dons’ title celebrations by bundling in the final goal in Saturday’s 3-0 win over St Albans City.

And Goodliffe, who is now out of contract, revealed he would not have had it any other way.

He said: “I will be speaking to Terry and hope to get something sorted, but it is very difficult to say what will happen at this stage of my career.

“I’ve had a very frustrating season with injuries, and the fact of the matter is that everyone seems to be getting quicker while I am getting slower.

“If Terry feels that there is a role for me to play I’d be delighted to stay, but ultimately that decision is not mine.

“But if I do go then I have had two fantastic seasons here and I would certainly leave on good terms.

“To be skipper of two promotion winning sides is something I am extremely proud of, and this is easily up there with anything else I have achieved in my career.”

Goodliffe has operated at Blue Square Premier level thanks to stints at Stevenage Borough and York City, and he accepts that there may have to be an overhaul before the start of next season.

He added: “I would liken the jump the club are making to going from the Championship to the Premiership.

“We will really be coming up against the big boys.

“The crowds will dictate that Wimbledon will always be seen as one of the big clubs, but the truth is they won’t be at that level.

“When you have clubs like Oxford United and Luton in there, they are far bigger outfits than AFC Wimbledon.

“But I don’t think the club will struggle at all.

“It will just be a case of finding our feet at that level, and building from there.”
