AFC Wimbledon 0-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Terry Brown took the positives from the Surrey Senior Cup exit at the hands of Dulwich as the Dons were left with just the league to concentrate on.

In a poor performance, Stuart Cash took charge of the team as the manager went scouting promotion rivals Hampton & Richmond.

He returned to Kingsmeadow in time to gage his right-hand man’s reaction to the 1-0 defeat.

The loss means Wimbledon’s final distraction from winning promotion into the Blue Square Premier has now gone – and the manager explained he is working overtime to enhance his forward line.

A goal after 47 minutes from Mo Coly means it is the south-east Londoners who progress to an interesting quarter final with Woking.

The impressive Coly connected brilliantly with Dan Francis’ quick cross to get the only goal of the game in a match of very few chances for either team.

It was slack marking from the Dons but it was harsh on the youthful home side who were at no point second best to the midtable Ryman Division One South side.

Returning Brown said: “I decided to leave Stuart to take the team and he wasn’t exactly enthralled.

“I went over to Hampton to catch their game against Welling United. It was important we had them watched as we fully expect Alan Devonshire’s side to be right up there with us.

“The Dulwich game was an opportunity for the youngsters to stake their claim but I will focus on the pluses, despite it of course being disappointing that we’re out of a competition we thought we could win.

“The good things from our point of view are important game time from the likes of Tony Finn and Andy Little. But most of all I’m delighted Kennedy Adjei got an hour under his belt after a horrible last month with injury. That’s a boost.”

Wimbledon’s flimsy attack rarely threatened the Hamlet goal during a frustrating evening for the Dons’ second string.

Brown says that is proof he hasn’t got the correct back-up in place – and fears an injury to either 28-goal striker Jon Main or Danny Kedwell.

The manager added: “We have just missed out on a player. I won’t name names but keep an eye out over the next few days for a Non-League playing going on loan to a pro side in the Football League. That’s our man!

“We know we are short in one or two areas, tonight shows that, and I am frantically trying to address the situation. We have 6 or 7 players we are looking at so we’ll see how things develop.

“I am not sure if Danny Kedwell is going to be able to manage to play every one of our next three matches so it’s quite important we get something done.”
