AFC Wimbledon chiefs have told Terry Brown he can use some of the club’s sudden cash injection for a transfer war-chest.

The Dons tonight confirmed a five-figure one-year sponsorship deal with Paul Strank and Sons Roofing Contractors.

The Blue Square South club’s Main Stand will now go under the name of the lifelong Dons fan – and his money will partly be used to help bring in new faces.

First to arrive could be Daniel-François Bocandé. The Frenchman was at Kingsmeadow tonight with agent David Lee with the talented striker looking for a club after leaving Metz.

Commercial Director Ivor Heller confirmed: “Yes, Terry will be given a bit more money now we’ve completed this fantastic deal for the football club.

“Especially with the current injury situation we find ourselves with there will be cash made available – we really want to give it a go this year and we’re thrilled and thank Paul Strank for his continued commitment to AFC Wimbledon.”

Strank was delighted his money will be put to good use.

“I have always been a Wimbledon fan and I am in a privileged position to be able to help the club – I didn’t think twice about it,” he said.

“And to be able to see some of this go straight into the team is fantastic. It should be a wonderful first season for us in the Conference South.”

Manager Brown added: “This is big day for the football club and I’m thrilled Paul and his family have put their hands in their pockets to help the football club they love.

“And, of course, if some of that goes into my team building then all the better. We are talking to Daniel (François Bocandé) and we’ll see what happens. He has played in pre-season for another Conference club but I would like to think we’re in the driving seat.

“But I want to see him first. He is training with the boys tonight and should play at Tonbridge on Saturday.”
