Brentford new boy Sam Wood has revealed there is no limit to his ambitions in the game having admitted his switch to Griffin Park was a dream come true.

The 21-year-old left full-back took the plunge into the professional ranks in May after signing a two-year deal to move from non-League Bromley.

Wood impressed boss Andy Scott during a couple of reserve team matches last season as the Lilywhites debuted in the Blue Square South having won promotion via the Ryman League Premier Division play-offs.

He pulled on a Bees first-team shirt for the first time against Championship outfit Ipswich Town as pre-season preparations got under way in earnest with a 4-0 home drubbing earlier this month.

And Wood admits everything has happened in a bit of a whirlwind since he was asked down to the club’s Osterley training ground.

“The manager at Bromley told me Andy was interested. I trained with the team for a couple of weeks, played two reserve games and after that was told they wanted to sign me,” he said.

“I didn’t have to think twice about it. It is every kids dream to play football full time, do you know what I mean? I'm buzzing.

“It is an amazing feeling doing something you love every day. I’m just going to to do the best I can and hopefully I can go even higher.”

Wood has featured heavily in Scott’s pre-season plans thus far, including Saturday's 1-1 draw with Championship side Watford, which saw Charlie MacDonald bag his first goal for the club.

With Brentford operating with such a small squad he is likely to play a significant role in the club’s League Two campaign.

And the youngster, identified by Scott as a player for the future as much as the here-and-now, has backed claims the squad is strong enough for a promotion push.

“The boss has already said we are looking to go up this year. Andy has made a good few signings and hopefully we can do that,” he added.

“We’ve got a few more players who have been about a bit and have plenty of league experience. We should have decent season.”
