Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League with just a week left of this year’s football season – here is how they plan to celebrate if they are crowned champions.
It has been two decades since the Gunners lifted the Premier League trophy, but this could all change in a few days’ time.
With their final game against Everton on May 19, Arsenal currently top the table on 86 points, with Manchester City one point behind but with matches against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United on May 15 and 19, respectively.
As hope of victory builds, plans have been put in place for how the team might celebrate.
Islington Council has revealed the route a potential parade would take, allowing thousands of fans to revel in their team’s glory.
Starting at 5pm next Monday (May 20), the parade would carry the team from Emirates Stadium in Drayton Park towards Upper Street.
The route would travel along Aubert Grove, Highbury Grove, and St Paul’s Road before reaching its destination.
The team would then return back to the Emirates via the same route, arriving at around 7pm.
They would then make an appearance on the podium above The Armoury store in Hornsey Road, before the celebration ends at around 8pm.
Islington Council has said there would be no parking on this route from 8.30am on the day of the parade.
Anyone who does not move their car by this time would have it taken away by the council.
Match day parking restrictions would also apply to roads outside the parade route.
Bike hangars along the route would need to be empty by 10am on the day of the parade.
Road closures along the route would be enforced from 4pm, with the expectation that they could be lifted by 9pm.
The council has warned it is likely that nearby Tube stations (Arsenal, Holloway Road, Highbury and Islington, and Finsbury Park) would be impacted on the day.
Barriers would be put in place along the procession route to help with crowd control, with limits on the number of people allowed to view the area near to Emirates Stadium.
All of these plans are contingent on Arsenal clinching victory in the Premier League this weekend.
The Gunners play Everton at the Emirates at 4pm on Sunday (May 19).
Even if Arsenal win, one win and a draw from Manchester City would see the title come down to goal difference.
