Premier League sides Ports-mouth and Fulham are heading the list of suitors for highly rated Sutton United youngster Jerson Dos Santos.

The 17-year-old made his debut under caretaker boss Jimmy Dack at the end of last season, but is not under contract at Gander Green Lane, despite having signed first-team forms in March.

Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and Norwich City are thought to be monitoring the situation, as are League Two Brentford, led by former United striker Andy Scott.

Whichever club lands his signature is likely to offer final-year academy terms to the young striker, leading scorer with 30 goals for Sutton's youth team last term.

New United boss Paul Doswell has admitted he is powerless to stop Dos Santos leaving the club in the summer, but is confident he will report for pre-season training on July 1 before making his next move.

"I haven't spoken to him at length but he is aware that, if he stays with the club, he will be training with the first team from now on," he said.

"I expect him to be with us for the first two weeks of pre-season for me to have a look at him but we will not stand in his way if he wants to trial with other teams.

"One thing I would say is that very few youngsters make it into the pro game from the academies and only a few of make it back into Conference and Conference South level.

"It will be a difficult decision for him to make when the time comes."

Former Sutton striker Scott, who still enjoys a good relationship with chairman Bruce Elliott, confirmed Dos Santos had been training with the Bees in the latter part of last season.

He had been tipped off by former team-mate Dack, and has not ruled out a swoop.

"The first team is my priority at the moment. He is not one for the here and now, but has a good physique and has the potential to develop further," he added.

"I haven't been in touch with Sutton since he trained with us a couple of times last season, but he is a player for the future and we may open discussions soon with a view to having him on a more permanent basis."
