Sutton United striker Steffan Ball insists he was only too happy to switch a promotion push for a relegation dogfight after arriving from Ramsgate.

Towering frontman Ball has fired 14 goals for the Ryman Premier play-off hopefuls this season.

And he made the perfect start to his Sutton career with a debut winner for Sutton against Thurrock on 10 days ago.

Although United have collected just one point from two matches since, Ball does not believe has has joined a hopeless cause.

"If we can win eight of our remaining games then I am convinced we would be comfortable," he added.

"It is all about us defending well as a team, not giving any soft goals away and building from there."

Ball revealed he turned down an approach from boss Ernie Howe earlier in the season to stay loyal to Ramsgate.

But he added: "When they came back in for me, I jumped at the chance.

"I am fully aware of the position we are in here, but the opportunity to play for Sutton and in this division was too good to pass up.

"This is a much bigger club than Ramsgate and I am convinced I have made a good decision."

United striker Warren McBean is on the brink of a move to Eastleigh.
