Lee Bowyer praised George Lapslie’s goalscoring performance in Charlton’s 3-1 win over relegation contenders Luton Town.

The subsitute tapped home late-on at The Valley to insure three points for the Addicks after a Lyle Taylor brace put the Bowyer’s men in command.

Harry Cornick’s strike levelled the tie momentarily in the first half but Bowyer’s men were deserved winners according to the manager.

“I’m pleased for George,” he said.

“He’s been out a while with his hamstring, so it’s good to see him out there.

“He’s a great young lad, he brings you energy, fight and passion.

“I told him to go out there work, get yourself in the box, and something fell for him and he stuck it away.”

Bowyer felt his side were worthy winner and highlighted the effect Lyle Taylor has on his side after he scored his tenth and 11th of the season.

“I thought we created enough chances to win the game comfortably,” he said.

“We created a lot, we were much better, we moved it quicker, we deserved to win.

“Lyle’s goal was very good, I see it every day in training, he scores from nothing.

“His scoring record isn’t bad against anyone.

“His work rate was outstanding, again, all round play, for me he was a full performance from a striker, he had everything.”

Charlton travel to Sheffield Wednesday midweek.
