Crystal Palace fans rallied behind goalkeeper Vicente Guaita after his error gifted Sheffield United victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The Spaniard shot-stopper fumbled Oliver Norwood’s corner into his own net on the hour, condemning the Eagles to defeat.

Guaita, one of Palace’s best performers this season, took to social media to issue a veiled apology to the Eagles faithful, an apology that was greeted with huge support.

Immediately after defeat, Palace boss Roy Hodgson revealed that Guaita issued an apology in the dressing room, one the 32-year-old didn’t have to do having saved his team mates on multiple occasions already this season.
