After two successive defeats Richmond are determined to get back to winnings this Saturday when they host Plymouth Albion says prop Jimmy Litchfield.
Richmond, who now sit joint top with Rosslyn Park on the National League 1 table, have fallen to successive defeats for the first time this season, losing 18-13 to Park a fortnight ago, before suffering a frustrating 8-7 defeat away against Sale FC last Saturday.
Litchifield who joined Richmond in the summer from local rivals London Scottish, says Saturday’s fixture against the 13th placed Plymouth Albion could not come at a better time for his side.
“The loss against Sale was very disappointing and something we are extremely driven to rectify as soon as possible," the 28-year-old said.
“The performance was frustrating and we made too many simple errors, didn’t take our chances and allowed Sale to dictate the match.
“We have worked hard this week at making sure we do the basics right, improving our set piece and remaining confident in ourselves.”
Litchfield says his club has the ability to rediscover their exciting form and continue pushing ahead in the league, despite their recent slip ups.
“We know when we do play to our best we are extremely hard to beat," he continued.
“We’ve dropped a couple games at home this season which has been frustrating, but we can’t wait to get back out there on Saturday in front of a big Richmond crowd.
“It’s our home patch, our pride and we want to make it a fortress and somewhere other teams hate coming to play.”
As for Saturday’s opposition, Litchfield says Richmond will be ready for a tough fixture against a club renowned for their physicality.
“Plymouth are always a side you know will come ready to play and ready to dominate the set piece”, he added.
“They notoriously have a big scrum and lineout and will look to control those aspects of the match.
“They have a great head coach in Ben Gulliver, who from his time as a very good Championship second-row, will target those areas as somewhere they can gain the upper hand.
“We will need to make sure we front up early, deliver a far improve set piece performance and target the areas in which we know we can score points.”
Tickets are still available for Richmond’s Double Header this Saturday at the Athletic Ground (Richmond Men vs Plymouth Albion KO 3pm, Richmond Women vs Loughborough Lightning KO 5pm). Purchase online via Eventbrite or buy at the gate.
