Mark De Bolla has revealed his AFC Wimbledon switch has been five months in the making but admits he is delighted to be able to call himself a Don.

De Bolla was originally on Terry Brown's hitlist when he took over from sacked Dons boss Dave Anderson in May - but the former Charlton and Aston Villa man was unable to join the Kingsmeadow club because he was still under contract with Liam Daish's Ebbsfleet United.

However, five months later Brown finally got his man - and De Bolla has been well worth the wait after scoring on his Dons debut in the 2-1 FA Trophy victory over Hendon last week and laying on two of Tony Finn's hat trick in Saturday's 3-1 win over Harlow Town.

And De Bolla is happy his long-protracted move has finally come to fruition and has revealed it is partly thanks to a little nudge in the right direction from Dons team mate Rob Quinn.

De Bolla said: "In the close season Stuart Cash gave me a call and asked me to come down but obviously I was still at Ebbsfleet so it couldn't happen then.

"But things didn't work out at Ebbsfleet for one reason or another - and as soon as I left there Rob gave me a call and set up a meeting and it all took off from there.

"This is a massive club for this level - we definitely should be higher with the fan base and it's a good club to be at."

Brown has employed De Bolla just behind front man Daniel Webb in a bid to solve his side's inadequacies in front of goal.

And De Bolla says he has enjoyed playing as a second striker.

"The manager has given me a free role which means I can roam, get as much of the ball as I can and start the play.

"I enjoy that role and that's how I want to play my game.

"I'm playing with confidence at the moment and as long as I am enjoying my football then I can always produce."

But De Bolla insists being handed the task to help solve his side's goalscoring crisis does not phase him.

"I don't feel any pressure, I just want to play my game and be happy on the pitch.

"I'm happy for other players to take the glory and goals as long as we keep on picking up the three points.

"The league is tight but if we can go on a run, turn the draws into wins the we should be climbing up that table pretty quickly."
