Crystal Palace failed to fill the voids left by right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer, but not for want of trying it seems.

Fans were left in up-roar as they failed to see any of the £50million from the Wan-Bissaka deal re-invested in a full-back, but it’s transpired they were actively looking in the summer.

Max Aarons, Reece James, and Nathaniel Clyne were all rumoured targets for Roy Hodgson and Steve Parish in the summer, but one name who was also on the list was that of AC Milan’s Andrea Conti.

The Italian international’s agent confirmed to the MilanNews that the Eagles were keen on the 25-year-old’s signature, but snubbed their advances.

“In the summer he had Parma, Werder Bremen, Crystal Palace, SPAL, and other teams, at least five or six proposals,” Mario Giuffredi said

“He insisted on staying here at Milan.”

Your Local Guardian:

Conti moved to AC Milan during their cash-splashing 2017 overhaul, arriving in a £20million deal from Atalanta.

The pacey right-backs career at the San Siro didn’t get off to the best of starts, suffering cruciate ligament damage that ruled him out for the majority of a disappointing season for the European giants.

Meanwhile Hodgson has injected a new lease of life into Joel Ward who has been filling the right back berth aptly for Palace this season.

That said there are strong suggestions Palace will be re-evaluating the position during the January transfer window.
