The Selhurst Park outfit could hi-jack the move however should they make a greater offer, a possibility considering they parted with little of the £50million they received from the Aaron Wan-Bissaka deal that saw the defender move to Manchester United in the summer.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson has been transparent in his wishes of landing a goal-scorer, with the club expected to make moves in the window.

“It’s something I’m sure we’re looking to put right at some stage at the earliest opportunity, but at the moment it’s not going to be easy to do that and we’re going to have to work hard for our goals as a team.”

“We’d like to score more but we’ve not been a prolific goalscoring team in these two years, but everybody who watches us regularly or knows the club well enough understands that we haven’t really had someone who is a renowned goalscorer in the team.”
