Charlton’s on-loan midfielder Sam Field believes he and Jonathan Leko made the right call moving to The Valley.

Field, on-loan from West Brom along with close friend Jonathan Leko, have impressed in Charlton’s positive start to the season.

Charlton travel to The Hawthorns at the end of the month and although they won’t be eligible to play against their parent club, Field believes they made the right decision in joining the Addicks and working under Lee Bowyer.

“It’s been really enjoyable for both of us I think,” Field told West Brom Official.

“It’s been a different experience and environment after 14, 15 years with one club and I’m really benefitting as I think Jonathan is too.

“I know West Brom as a club inside out so it’s great to get to a different club with a different style of play.

“It’s exactly what I needed."

Midfield is an area where the SE7 outfit are blessed.

A successful recruitment drive in the summer saw Josh Cullen, Jonny Williams, Conor Gallagher, Beram Kayal and Ehrun Oztumer join a line-up that included Darren Pratley, George Lapslie and Jake Forster-Caskey.

Field however has forced his way into Bowyer’s plans, starting four and featuring in all bar one of the seven games whilst he’s been at the club.

“They’ve got a great group of lads who we’re working with and I’m getting game time and that’s what it’s all about for me,” the 21-year-old continued.

“Minutes on the pitch are what it’s all about for both of us.

"To go to a new club and get a difference experience.

"It’s a weight off my shoulders and it’s nice to be smiling again after a frustrating period.

"I’m really enjoying it. We both are.”

Leko has enjoyed a fruitful start at The Valley as well, scoring twice and assisting two as he’s adapting to a more attacking role under Bowyer.

“I’m really happy for Jonathan,” Field added.

“I’ve known him a long time now and he’s done really well here.

“He’s really showing the signs of the player we first saw when he broke into the Albion team.

“He’s kept his head down and worked really hard and it looks as if he has been given a new lease of life.”

“We’ve got our own places down here – I couldn’t live with him, that would be a nightmare!” he added.

“But I’m only a couple of minutes away and it’s worked out well for us."

Charlton, sitting in tenth, but just four points off the top spot face Derby a week Saturday, before travelling to Bristol City midweek and then the fixture against West Brom on the 26th of October.
