Brentford travel to table toppers Leeds on Wednesday in what many see as a fixture that’ll outline the Bees’ realistic promotion credentials.

On the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Hull City at Griffin Park on Saturday where Ollie Watkins’s strike cancelled out Jarrod Bowen’s opener, manager Thomas Frank was honest in his assessment of his side’s chances of getting a result in Yorkshire.

With a win, a loss and a draw in their opening three fixtures, Frank has seen yet to see his side reach the standards they set last season, or the standards he expects them to reach.

“I know we are only going to get better and better and better this season,” Frank said.

“It’s up to me to do it as quick as possible.

“I think the second half performance at Middlesbrough fills me with confidence, the first half against Birmingham fills me with confidence, and the last 25 minutes against Hull fills me with confidence ahead of the Leeds tie.”

Last season Brentford took four points off Leeds after a goalless draw at Elland Road in October before recording a 2-0 win at Griffin Park in April.

“We played two games last year that were very even, we respect them, they play fantastic football.

“I admire the manager Marcelo Bielsa massively, but we are confident and believe we can go up there and win.”

One man who will get headlines regardless of the result is that of Brentford’s centre-back, Pontus Jansson.

A fan favourite at Leeds, the Swede made the controversial switch to West London over the summer and quickly established himself as Brentford’s leader.

Taking the armband the 28-year-old has already won over fans at Griffin Park and on the field he’s been a stand out performer in Brentford’s inconsistent start to the season.

“The beautiful fairytale is we are winning 1-0 from a set piece and Pontus scores,” Frank continued.

“We know its massively difficult to go up there, but we are looking forward to it!”
