Crystal Palace have been urged by former striker Clinton Morrison to sign Daniel Sturridge after his release by Liverpool.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea forward, 29, revealed this week that he will be leaving the European Champions after six seasons with the Anfield outfit.

News of his availability has alerted a host of clubs including Tottenham, Leicester City and Rangers, managed by his former team mate Steven Gerrard.

Morrison however, believes Roy Hodgson should put their hat in the ring as they look to bolster their front line with a player of proven quality.

"I’d love my old club Palace to get him because I think, in front of goal, he is one of the most natural," he told TalkSPORT radio.

“For me, I think he'd be a great addition for most Premier League teams outside top three or four.

"I don't think he’s money-orientated. He never looks happy on the bench.”

Sturridge has seen game time limited over the last two seasons and moved to West Brom for a brief loan spell at the back end of last season.

With 50 goals for Liverpool in 116 games, 45 of which were from the bench, he boasts a decent conversion rate.

Palace have struggled in front of goal the past couple of seasons with Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham both being sidelined by injury and loan signing Michy Batshuayi possibly being out of the Eagles price range to bring in on a permanent basis.

Morison believes Sturridge could be the forward to catapult the Eagles to the next level and warned the 26-cap England international not to be hasty in going to Tottenham or Rangers.

"What he’s got to realise is that at Tottenham Kane will always play.

"He’ll want to go to a club where he’s playing week-in week-out, someone like Crystal Palace,”

"I think Sturridge will want to stay in the Premier League, that’s not being disrespectful to the Scottish Premiership, I think he’s still a Premier League player.”
