Selhurst Park Main Stand redevelopment unlikely to begin this summer

Crystal Palace had planned to start building a new £75million main stand this summer, but due to ‘complex’ negotiations it looks unlikely.

Crystal Palace received permission from Croydon Council to build a new main stand which would see the clubs overall capacity increase from 26,000 to 34,000, but talks that centre around the club’s obligations to fund transport and community improvement initiatives have stalled.

The construction of the new stand can take place whilst the current Main Stand is still operational, meaning that work can take place during the regular season.

The existing seating area will eventually form the lower tier of the new Main Stand, and the construction of the roof is the only phase of the project that will have to take place during the close season.

Crystal Palace Supporters’ Trust released minutes from their latest meeting which suggest talks are ‘continuing but complex.’

The Club could not confirm that ‘smaller scale improvements’ to Selhurst Park or the training ground facilities were programmed for the off-season but vowed to keep supporters aware of any projects.

No significant developments could be confirmed since the last meeting in respect of the ‘new’ stand and training ground, negotiations were continuing but complex. The Club did wish to confirm that a number of smaller scale improvements to Selhurst and the training ground were programmed for the closed season/near future including work on the Holmesdale roof. The Trust welcomed the fact that other things were taking place and that the ‘new’ stand was not the sole development under consideration. The Trust indicated fans generally were interested in such smaller scale projects and that these should be publicised. The Club agreed to do this.
