The Premier League Team of the Year was announced this week and as expected it was dominated by Liverpool and Manchester City players.
As always there is hot debate as to who should or shouldn’t have been selected, but one name seems to be heard more than others.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The right back berth was taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Not only was the 21-year-old overlooked for the TOTY, but also Young Player of The Year.
Roy Hodgson remained diplomatic by his man’s omission ahead of their penultimate home game against Everton.
“You never know whether to be surprised,” said Hodgson.
“Does he deserve to be?
“Not many people would deny he has had a fantastic season, but it is a strong group, and whether the fact there is another right-back in there [Alexander-Arnold] has a bearing, I don't know.
“As far as I am concerned, it should be enough to know what we feel and for experts to say what a wonderful player he is.
“Hopefully he will be able to put that behind him.”

Not only did the right back have support from his manager, but social media was a buzz with the Eagle missing out on a spot in both gongs.
Imagine picking TAA over AWB 🤣🤣🤣🤣 #CPFC

Think with the team of the season, it’s completely dominated by big teams where you look at people like AWB and Diogo Jota who fully deserve a place but get overlooked so easily #CPFC #WWFC

Does the PFA TOTY and POTY panel actually watch the PL because if they did surely they would include AWB⚽️#CPFC #Clueless

How is TAA in the Team of the year ahead of AWB!? Highest stats (at right back) for tackles AND interceptions. I like TAA, he's great going forward, but it's AWB all along. #cpfc pic.twitter.com/9iSUMjGdYv

Trent Alexander Arnold in @PFA team of year ahead of AWB,Jesus give your hold a wobble TAA isn’t even the 2nd best RB behind AWB in the league. The stats don’t lie unless the job of a RB is of an attacking nature only. Anyone’s welcome to prove me wrong. #pfatoty #joke #cpfc #TAA

Don't understand why Alexander -Arnold has been nominated over AWB for PFA young player of the year? #EPL #PFA #PremierLeague @FYPFanzine #CPFC pic.twitter.com/hWeTS7kFAr

That’s fair enough, can understand why Hazard should be in there. Thought it was quite harsh me leaving him out. Think AWB is a better defender than TAA. Wasn’t quite sure who to chose out of Fabinho or Fernandinho. Feel Rice has a had a good season not a great team.

AWB over TAA

TAA is fantastic, but to say he’s had a better season than AWB is terrible. What football have players been watching this season? Obviously not Palace

AWB > TAA > Dalot

AWB has the best RB stats in Europe, but because he doesn’t play in a top 6 side, he won’t get noticed. TAA is definitely not “streaks ahead”, he’s just in a far better/more successful side.

Original tweet is a joke anyway, Dean Saunders was criticising AWB last week! 🤦🏼♂️
AWB over TAA for me. First full senior season for AWB and he’s been brilliant. TAA has more assists cause he is involved in set piece duties and part of a better attacking unit. AWB has relentlessly defended and has limited attacking outlets.
