Former Stoke City midfielder Liam Lawrence has given his former employers advice on how to deal with the notorious crowd at The Den.

Lawrence, who played over 100 games for the Potters and visited The Den more than once as a player, has offered his advice to the current crop of Stoke players ahead of their visit on Saturday.

Millwall’s home support has often been labelled the most passionate in English football, but the former Portsmouth and Sunderland man has revealed how he coped in Bermondsey.

News Shopper:

“I played there a few times and the New Den can be a nasty and horrible place for visiting players,” he told Stoke-on-Trent live.

"Stoke players could run into a wall of abuse at Millwall this weekend because it’s such a huge game for them.

“My advice is don’t listen, or if you do hear anything coming your way, just laugh back.

“That’s what I used to do and I know what it’s like to get stick there.

“I’m guessing it will be more or less full in the home stands because Millwall are desperate for a result to make sure they’re safe in the Championship.

“You’ve just got to be big enough to take it and don’t let it distract from your own game.”

Nathan Jones’ Stoke side have had disappointing return to Championship football as they sit 16th, and with little but pride to play for, Neil Harris’ side will know a victory in front of their own fans would all but secure survival.
