Crystal Palace’s Max Meyer may not be 100% vegan but he is 100% Eagle.

With reports that some players who move to a foreign country fail to settle in off the pitch, the same can’t be said of the German who arrived in the summer.

Already a fan favourite, the midfielder who has been hot and cold in the eight months he’s been in England, admitted the move to Selhurst Park went through quickly but now has embedded himself in South London after tricky start.

“It went very quickly,” said the former Schalke man.

“My agent said Crystal Palace were interested, I flew to London, met the manager, three days later I signed.

“It was very difficult for me, it was the first time I left my home, and the club I spent nine years at.

“I didn’t speak English well when I arrived, I didn’t know anyone.

“Now, I feel good, I like it like London, I like the club and my teammates who were good to me and helped me.”

Meyer says he’s taking English lessons 2-3 hours a day in order to submerge himself in the culture of the capital, but despite the lessons there’s one person he finds tricky to deal with.

“Macca (James McArthur), he’s hard to understand,” he joked.

The 23-year-old feels the speed of the English league suits his game, and the attacking nature of it appeals more to the fans too.

“Germany it’s more tactical, but here it’s quicker, always passing forward, it doesn’t matter if you’re in front or behind, I like that, it’s good for my football and the fans.

“I was surprised by the atmosphere at Selhurst park.

“Selhurst is similar to a lot of clubs in German for atmosphere.

“They drink a lot, make a party, I like that.”

80% Vegan

Despite only recently commanding a more regular role in Roy Hodgson’s side, the German international says he’s never felt better, and owes that down to his diet.

"I would say I'm 80% vegan - once or twice a week I eat chicken.

“I'm feeling better like this, I'm never tired and I'm never again stomach pain when I eat; I like animals but that's not the reason."

"A friend of my girlfriend's, her father is a famous chef in Germany and she talked about our idea with vegan food and he liked the story and so we came together and since then we've worked together.

“It's called 'Green Rosin'.”

"You can buy food online and some supermarkets in Germany, but not in England yet."
