Crystal Palace will be buoyed by the news that Brighton and Hove Albion’s Pascal Gross has been ruled out of his side’s trip to Selhurst Park.

Seagull’s manager Chris Hughton confirmed on Thursday that the influential midfielder has yet to recover from a hamstring injury picked up a fortnight ago.

With the visitors in somewhat of a slump in form, the news will be a blow to Hughton and co.

"He's not back training yet.” said Hughton.

“Apart from Pascal everybody is fit.

"He is not available for the game.

"We'll see how he goes this week.

“At the time I said the good news although it was a hamstring injury, it wasn't a bad hamstring, probably a grade one. "

'Something to cheer about'

Brighton took the bragging rights earlier this season with a 3-1 win in the M23 Derby and the manager was keen to put on another show for their fans.

"It's one game that both sets of supporters don't want to be on the losing side.

"I can only speak about our supporters who have been excellent all season.

“I'm quite sure in what is always a noisy Selhurst Park our supporters will make themselves heard but we've got to give them something to cheer about.

"We've got to put in a performance which not only raises our players but gives our supporters something to cheer about."

Brighton registered their first win of 2019 against Huddersfield on Saturday but are still deep in a relegation fight, sitting just five points clear of the relegation zone.
