Lee Bowyer has set his Charlton side a target as to what he thinks is necessary to finish in the top two.

The Addicks are winless in three matches and have seen Luton and Barnsley who occupy the automatic places extend their lead over Charlton in fifth to seven points.

Charlton are six points clear of seventh placed Peterborough but it is automatic promotion Bowyer has targeted.

“If we want to get top two we have to win a minimum of 11 of the last 14 games,” said the Charlton boss.

“In the last three matches because of the situation with our strikers we’ve dropped points.

“At the begin of January we were three points off top, we’ve let that slip, but we are still amongst it.

“We are capable of going on a big run and I still believe we can get the top two but it’ll be hard.”

On the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with Southend United last weekend Bowyer maintained the squad are in a good place ahead of Blackpool’s visit and that his side will be ready to fight for one of the top two berths.

“They (the squad) know we are in a good place, and how hard we’ve worked to get here.

“So there is no way I will let them come off it now and lose out on a great opportunity.

“Top two is always realistic as long as it’s mathematically possible.

“It’ll be tough, all the sides that are in and around us have spent a lot of money and theoretically they should be above us.

“But we’ve accommodated ourselves well and we’ve got to where we are through hard work and togetherness and that doesn’t change.

“We have the players that can go and hurt teams and we are still in with a shout for sure.”
