Josh Cullen made his return from injury in Charlton’s feisty 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Saturday and admitted his relief to getting back on the pitch.

Cullen dislocated his shoulder at Walsall in early November and has missed a large portion of Lee Bowyer’s side’s push for promotion.

The West Ham United loanee spoke of his delight to returning to the fold.

“It’s fantastic to be back out there!” said the 22-year-old.

“I’ve missed the feeling you have on a Friday, the buzz of having a game the next day, so it was brilliant to be out there.

“It’s onwards and upwards now.

“I knew I had to do everything properly and get my shoulder as strong as it can be.

“I’m happy to get through 90 minutes but we have to go again next week now.”

The classy midfielder was speaking after The Addicks took the three points thanks to Karlan Grant’s injury time penalty.

Having broken his leg for West Ham under 23s, Cullen was philosophical about his most recent injury.

“The good thing with a dislocated shoulder is that from two or three days after surgery I’ve been on the bike every day, and I’ve been outside running for the last month or so, so its not too much of an issue as your ankle or your knee which sets you back running.

“The hardest thing is being away from the lads, doing your own thing, see them go and train and you want to be out there, it’s quite tough mentally.”

Charlton travel to Peterborough on Saturday who currently 6th in the league are also chasing promotion.
