Charlton’s Albie Morgan is set for a spell on the side lines following a freak training ground accident.

Having started the last three matches, the 18-year-old was expected to start in the 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

Morgan has made the most of his opportunities in central midfield for The Addicks since the start of the year but Lee Bowyer has confirmed he will be out for up to two months.

“Albie was down to start (against Accrington),” said the Charlton boss.

“Tariq (Fosu) fell on him in training, both hit the deck and he’s done something to his ankle, he’ll be out for a while, another six-weeker.

“I felt for Albie because he was meant to start. It’s just things you can’t control. It is what it is.”

Bowyer was buoyed by the return of Josh Cullen and Ben Reeves to the squad on the weekend but it seems a case of ‘two steps forward, one step back’ for the man at the helm after a season of injury setbacks to his squad.

“Reeco (Hackett-Fairchild) then got injured in training, a freak one.

“He went to shoot, Pat (Bauer) was behind him but he’s caught his foot by accident and he’s done his ankle. Pat didn’t do anything, it’s just a freak thing. He had a fitness test this morning (Saturday) and failed that.

“I’m not sure how serious it is, but Albie will be out for a while.”

Bowyer also gave an update on Joe Aribo and Igor Vetekole.

Aribo has been out of action since late December with a knee injury while Vetokele’s dislocated shoulder has ruled him out since early November.

“Aribo has started running in straight lines, needs to see how his knee is with turning and running.

“Igor is running so don’t know how far he is off, he’s just started running, he’s been out for two or three months sow we’ll have to see how he goes.”
