Charlton Athletic are confident in maintaining the services of in-demand striker Karlan Grant.

It's thought Rangers are keen on the forward after sending a scout to Shrewsbury last weekend where the 21-year-old impressed.

With only six-months left on his current deal, Grant is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with other clubs for when his deal expires.

“We are negotiating a contract with Karlan, we are trying to get him to stay and we’ll have to see where that goes,” said Charlton manager Lee Bowyer.

“Clubs are going to be looking to take our plyers and a big club like Rangers is obviously a compliment to us.

“We haven’t had any approach from Rangers and we are aware of their interest. It’s a compliment to the football club and to Karlan."

Sources at the club say that they're ‘confident’ that the 13-goal striker will extend his stay at The Valley.

Grant would cost the Ibrox club a minimal compensation fee as he came through the club’s academy, a small price to pay for a player they had earmarked as the long-term successor of Alvaro Morelos- himself linked with big money moves away from Gers.

It is thought Charlton have already rebuffed a £500,000 bid from Championship side Brentford for the striker, showing how much they value a player that has become integral to Lee Bowyer’s promotion chasing side.
