Karlan Grant and Nicky Ajose helped fire Charlton back into the League One top six and stun 10-man Portsmouth after a nervy finish at Fratton Park.

After the pair combined to give the Addicks a sizeable lead, Pompey pulled one back minutes before full time through substitute Andre Green.

But after being denied on several occasions, they would be reduced to 10 men when Ben Thompson received two yellow cards in five minutes.

Here’s how we rated Charlton’s players…

Jed Steer – 7 – Portsmouth made their threat known but he had little to do until the late stages. Made a crucial goal-line clearance alongside Lapslie - one of the most pivotal moments in the second half.

Anfernee Dijksteel – 6 – Ronan Curtis didn’t have a lot of joy down his wing, though Portsmouth fired many crosses from his wing. Held his own.

Jason Pearce – 8 – Solid performance in defence. Got into a couple skirmishes, especially with Lowe after a penalty shout, but was commanding throughout against his former club.

Patrick Bauer – 7 – Hardly put a foot wrong alongside Pearce. Did come under duress a few times from the left wing but otherwise met everything well.

Naby Sarr – 5 – Struggled against Jamal Lowe with his repeated fouling as the winger got the better of him on a few occasions. Booked for his scrap with Brett Pitman. Looked very uncomfortable against him.

Krystian Bielik – 8 – A real stopper in front of the Charlton back four and destroyed attacks that came towards him. Distribution was decent enough. Replaced with Chris Solly.

Ben Reeves – 6 – Got on the ball often and made some excellent passes. Replaced with Mark Marshall.

Joe Aribo – 6 – His header led to the assist for the opening goal, but was otherwise quiet. Made solid contributions with his defending.

George Lapslie – 8 – Made a poor pass that could’ve been costly but made up for it, helping secondary assist the substitute Ajose’s goal. Made an extraordinary goal-line clearance. Workhorse performance.

Karlan Grant – 7 – In what proved to be a half hour cameo, he managed to score. Unfortunate to have his night cut short through injury.

Lyle Taylor – 9 – Played creator most of the first half and laid on the first two goals. He was a real lifeline for Charlton to get into Portsmouth’s half. Deserved a goal. Man of the match.
